The SHP venturi blower has no moving parts and no motor. It generates airflow by passing compressed air through a precisely machined venturi throat, which induces a large secondary flow of ambient air. Operation is therefore very simple — the skill is in providing the right air supply and handling the blower safely in hazardous atmospheres.
Place operation.mp4 in the site root to play here.
1. Before first use — what you need
- A clean, oil-free compressed air supply at 0.4–1.0 MPa (60–145 psi)
- A pressure-rated air hose with the correct fitting for your model (PM20 for 3SHP, G1/4 for 3SHP-B / 5SHP / 7SHP, G1" for 9SHP / 9SHP-B)
- A grounding cable and clamp (the optional grounding clamp is supplied on request)
- Exhaust ducting if you need to vent to a specific discharge point (flexible duct connects to the outlet flange)
2. Installation
Step 1 — Position the blower
Place the blower at the edge of the confined space with the outlet facing into the space. For extraction, reverse the direction: outlet facing out of the space. The aluminum base has bolt slots for securing to a frame or handle if desired.
Step 2 — Ground the blower
This step is mandatory in any flammable or explosive atmosphere. Clip the grounding cable to the bolt-slot on the base, and connect the other end to earth or the tank structure. This discharges any static buildup from the aluminum body.
Step 3 — Connect the air supply
Screw the compressed air hose into the inlet fitting. Ensure the connection is tight and there are no leaks. Route the hose so it does not get crushed or kinked during operation.
Step 4 — Open the air supply gradually
Slowly open the shutoff valve until the blower reaches the required inlet pressure. The venturi will begin pulling ambient air the moment supply pressure crosses ~0.3 MPa.
3. Inlet pressure vs. airflow
Airflow scales directly with inlet pressure. For planning purposes:
| Inlet pressure | Typical airflow (5SHP) | Induction ratio (5SHP) | Air consumption |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 psig (0.28 MPa) | ~1,520 m³/h | 1:42 | 22 scfm |
| 60 psig (0.41 MPa) | ~1,856 m³/h | 1:28 | 40 scfm |
| 80 psig (0.55 MPa) | ~2,258 m³/h | 1:23 | 58 scfm |
The induction ratio decreases as inlet pressure rises, because compressed air flow grows faster than induced flow. For the most efficient use of compressed air, operate at the lowest inlet pressure that still delivers the airflow you need.
4. Safety — hazardous atmospheres
- Check the atmosphere first. Use a calibrated gas detector. Our blowers reduce LEL but do not zero it out — verify before entry.
- Do not exceed 1.0 MPa inlet pressure. The body is tested at this pressure but continuous overpressure shortens service life.
- No foreign objects. Do not allow tools or debris to enter the outlet cone. Even though there are no blades, dense objects can damage the venturi throat.
- Do not cover the outlet. Back-pressure will drastically reduce airflow and can shorten blower life.
5. Maintenance
The SHP blower is designed to be maintenance-free. There are no bearings, no blades, no seals and no lubrication points. However, we recommend:
- Weekly visual inspection of the venturi throat and outlet cone for debris or scale
- Monthly check of the air supply filter/separator
- Yearly rinse of the venturi body with clean water if used in dusty or salt-laden environments (dry thoroughly before reuse)
- Inspect the grounding clamp and cable every time you deploy the blower in a hazardous area
6. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Low airflow | Low inlet pressure, or restricted outlet | Check supply gauge; clear any blockage at outlet or exhaust duct |
| Hissing at inlet | Loose fitting | Tighten thread; replace PTFE tape if needed |
| Internal scaling | Wet or contaminated air supply | Install / replace filter-separator; rinse venturi |
| Heavy condensation at outlet | Humid compressed air | Drain compressor tank and install air dryer |
