5SHP Venturi Air Blower: The Balanced Workhorse for Mid-Size Confined Spaces

Why the 5SHP Is Our Most-Shipped Model

Every month, we ship more 5SHP units than any other model in the SHP series. The reason is simple: it sits in the engineering sweet spot. The 5SHP extends the venturi body to 520 mm for a higher induction ratio and better airflow at the same air consumption as the 3SHP — yet it still weighs only 1.76 kg, light enough for one person to carry, position and operate.

For shipyards, chemical plants and contractors doing day-to-day confined-space ventilation, the 5SHP is usually the right answer.

Airflow at a Glance

Like all SHP models, the 5SHP is driven purely by compressed air or saturated steam. Its airflow scales with inlet pressure:

  1. 1,520 m³/h at 40 psig (0.28 MPa)
  2. 1,856 m³/h at 60 psig (0.41 MPa)
  3. 2,258 m³/h at 80 psig (0.55 MPa)

Air consumption remains modest across the range — just 22 scfm at 40 psig and 58 scfm at 80 psig. The induction ratio reaches 1:42, meaning every unit of compressed air drawn in generates 42 units of ambient airflow out the 155 mm outlet.

Where the 5SHP Shines

Chemical Reactor Vessels

Purging a 20–50 m³ reactor before maintenance crew enter is the 5SHP's bread and butter. Connect it to the shop's 6 bar compressed-air line through the G1/4 inlet, clip the grounding cable, and the vessel reaches safe LEL levels in minutes — with zero ignition risk because there is no motor and no sparks.

Medium Ship Holds

For between-deck spaces, small cargo holds and engine-room compartments during welding, grinding and painting, the 5SHP delivers enough airflow to maintain fresh-air turnover without needing the bulk of a 7SHP or 9SHP. Ship superintendents often buy 5SHPs by the half-dozen — one per dock, one per welding bay.

Routine Confined-Space Ventilation

Contractors doing utility-vault, pipeline, and silo entry work need equipment that is easy to deploy and hard to break. A single operator can carry the 5SHP one-handed from the service van to the entry point, making it a standard item in confined-space rescue kits.

5SHP vs 3SHP vs 7SHP — Which One Do You Need?

A quick decision matrix we share with customers:

  1. Tank under 15 m³, or very light duty? The 3SHP is cheaper and smaller.
  2. Tank 15–80 m³? Chemical reactor? Ship hold? The 5SHP is the right model.
  3. Tank 80–200 m³? Industrial furnace access? Step up to the 7SHP for its 205 mm outlet.
  4. Oil storage tank or plant-scale space? You need the 9SHP or 9SHP-B.

If you are unsure, send us your tank volume and available inlet pressure — we will recommend the right model and send a formal quotation the same working day.

Why Aviation-Grade Aluminum Matters

The 5SHP body is CNC-machined from a single block of aerospace aluminum. This choice is not cosmetic — it addresses three real field problems:

  1. Impact resistance. The blower gets dropped, dragged, and occasionally hit by falling tools. Aluminum deforms locally instead of cracking through.
  2. Anti-static properties. Static buildup during high airflow could be catastrophic in a flammable atmosphere. The aluminum alloy we use dissipates charge safely to the grounding clamp.
  3. Weight. A steel version of the 5SHP would weigh three times as much. At 1.76 kg, a field technician can hold it in one hand.
